EMDR Intensives

Why choose an EMDR intensive over weekly EMDR therapy?

Every client is different, which requires a client-centered approach. EMDR intensives provide extended, focused time for trauma processing so you can stay engaged in the work without the long gaps that occur in weekly sessions. In shorter sessions, it can sometimes feel challenging to begin deep processing and then quickly return to the demands of daily life. Intensives create space to move through the work more fully and intentionally.

  • After trauma or difficult experiences, our brains sometimes hold onto memories and emotions to protect us, which can make certain sights, sounds, or sensations feel overwhelming, even when we don’t fully understand why. Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, is an evidence-based therapy that helps your brain safely process these “stuck” memories and emotions that may be interfering with your daily life. Using visual, auditory, or tactile bilateral stimulation—through gentle eye movements, headphones, or buzzers—EMDR guides your brain in reprocessing intense emotions, helping you feel calmer, more grounded, and more able to fully engage with life.

  • An EMDR intensive begins with a 15-minute consultation to explore whether this approach is the right fit for you. If so, we will schedule a 90-minute intake session to learn more about your background and collaboratively identify goals for the intensive.

The intensive includes two back-to-back in-person therapy days (5–6 hours each) of focused work. During this time, we will incorporate resourcing and coping skills, sand tray therapy, and EMDR processing using bilateral stimulation to help the brain process and desensitize traumatic memories and emotions that may feel stuck in the nervous system.

After the intensive, we will meet the following week for a 60–90 minute follow-up session to allow time for integration, reflect on progress, and determine any next steps for continued support.

  • EMDR intensives can be a helpful option for individuals who feel ready to focus more deeply on healing. This format may be especially beneficial for those who want to address specific traumatic experiences, feel stuck in weekly therapy, or prefer a more concentrated therapeutic experience. Intensives may also be a good fit for individuals with demanding schedules, those traveling from outside the area, or clients who want to create dedicated time and space to focus on their healing without the start-and-stop rhythm of weekly sessions. During the initial consultation, we will explore whether an intensive is clinically appropriate and aligned with your goals.

  • Each intensive begins with a free 15-minute consultation to explore whether this approach is a good fit for you. A typical EMDR intensive includes approximately 12-14 hours of therapy—including an intake, two full intensive days, and a follow-up session—for a total of $2400. A superbill may be provided for possible out-of-network insurance reimbursement depending on your insurance provider. A reduced rate may be available for clients with financial need, please reach out to discuss options.
